The Best Day to Move House

The UK’s favourite day to move house is Friday, according to new data by Compare My Move.

Looking at data from over 95,000 UK house removals in 2019, Compare My Move revealed that Friday is the most popular day to move house, whilst Sunday is the least favourite day to move. With only 2.69% of moves happening on a Sunday throughout the year, it was found that Sunday is also the cheapest day to move house.

Moving in the South West

Unsurprisingly, the majority of the South West agrees that Friday is the best day to move house. Along with the rest of the UK, the majority of home movers in the South West also agree that August is the best month for moving, with the warmer weather and longer days helping create a smoother process.

So, what does this mean for those looking to move house in the South West of England? To reduce your moving costs and to quickly book a removals company, you may want to consider moving on a Sunday rather than a Friday. This then cuts down the average price to £717.13 and ensures more time slots are available to you. Always avoid Tuesdays, the most expensive day.

With the average distance moved in the South West for 2019 being 60.5 miles and the average property being a 2-bedroom property, your local removal companies will be facing a lot of weekend work and especially so during the warmer seasons. If possible, make yourself more available and try to avoid the busier days to help speed up your moving process.

The data found that August is the UK’s favourite month to move house with Summer being the preferred season, too. Movers in Wales and East Midlands prefer a July move, whilst October is favoured by movers in the West Midlands and the North East.

Interestingly, UK home movers in the Yorkshire and the Humber prefer to pack up and move house in the month of January, the same goes for the North West. Northern Ireland movers prefer a warmer move in April.

Tuesday is the most expensive day to move house coming in at £1,110,36 whilst Sunday comes in at the cheapest at £717.13. Friday is the most popular day but will cost you on average £937.19, so if you can afford a bit of time off work, it could be worth moving house on a Sunday.
